CMA CGM and MSC add Panama Canal surcharges on Asia–US trades
CMA CGM will charge $500 per TEU from 10 September; MSC will revise 20/40/45-foot rates from 12 September.

On 13 August 2026 Container News reported that CMA CGM and MSC updated Panama Canal charges for Asia cargo moving to the US East Coast and US Gulf. CMA CGM will apply a Panama Canal Adjustment Factor of $500 per TEU from 10 September 2026 on Far East origin, with Bangladesh to USEC excluded. MSC will revise its surcharge from 12 September (gate-in date): $149 / 20ft, $297 / 40ft, $376 / 45ft, covering Southeast Asia, China, South Korea and Japan until further notice.
Carriers cite ongoing draft limits that cut payload on Neopanamax strings. Exporters quoting FOB China should state whether Panama extras sit in ocean freight or as a separate surcharge, and keep a US West Coast option if east-coast all-water becomes uneconomic.
